iittala Kartio Anniversary Pack

kartio-anny.jpg

The classic glass designed by Kaj Franck will get a new package for the anniversary year. Four popular colors decorate the Kartio gift package: brown, sea blue, blueberry blue and moss green. The highly trendy brown is a new color in Kartio selection. The four-color pack humorously brings forth Franck’s belief about homeware items: good color in itself is decoration enough. Franck also recommended that you should always use a selection of colors when setting the table.

Designed in the 1950’s, the iittala Kartio line was created to be durable, simple and practical, both in shape and function.

SECCO Bags and Trays

These beautiful SECCO bags and trays have just arrived from Finland. Even better than the stylish look, these products are all made from recycled materials.

Take a look at the post about SECCO at Fabulously Green!

aste-90-300px.jpgMore about SECCO:

During the past 2-3 years SECCO has evolved from an idea to an energetic network of creative and skilled people. The business plan and the network have been developed based on SECCO’s most important guiding principle: sustainable development. SECCO was born from the need to link innovative designers, producers, material collectors and recyclers. The result is a growing international and professional network, that gives value to everyone involved. Since its foundation in 2003, SECCO Finland Ltd. functions as a platform between the different partners.

RUB-both-300px.jpgSECCO’s workshop was established in spring 2002 in Petäjävesi, where young professionals from the craft and industrial design field work. The workshop is like a laboratory, where materials and production methods are tested in various ways. It is an open ground for students and professionals to experiment with their ideas.

The production in SECCO’s workshop is small scale and handmade. Every stage of the production is carried out in the most sustainable way as possible from an ecological and quality point of view. Materials are aquired from various industries, waste collection and recycling companies, as well as, from producers specialised in material recycling.

Marimekko Jokapoika Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

Jokapoika celebrates its 50th anniversary
The Jokapoika shirt is the oldest continuously produced Marimekko classic. It was designed by Vuokko Nurmesniemi in 1956; the “Piccolo” fabric print was created even earlier, in 1953.

Jokapoika shirts have always been worn by a very wide range of people. They can be seen on city streets and in village cafés, on men and women, on common folk and celebrities alike. The shirts have been especially popular among architects and artists from different fields.

The shirt is made in sizes 37–50. New color combinations are introduced four times a year, besides which there are five continuously available classic colorways: red and white, blue and white, black and white, black and grey, and blue and navy. In addition, Matti Seppänen has created a range of special Jokapoika colorways to go with the outfits in his menswear collection. For his spring 2006 line, Matti Seppänen has also designed Piccolo-striped silk ties in the same colors as the Jokapoika shirts in the collection.

Today, the Jokapoika shirt is also available in women’s sizes, and children, too, have their own of Jokapoika style, entitled Pikkupojanpaita.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Jokapoika, Marimekko will launch a fabulous celebratory collection in spring 2006. The collection will include 50 different Jokapoika colorways, one favorite from each year.
