The New Alvar Aalto collection
Iittala colors of the glass won’t leave you cold
From the beginning, Alvar Aalto threw himself into the unique world of colored glass, and this is where we drew inspiration for the Aalto jubilee glass objects.

Petrol blue
We chose petrol blue as the color of the 2006 jubilee year Aalto vase. Spectacular 160, 120 and 95 mm vases have been blown in the jubilee color and it has been used in small bowls as well. Petrol blue is a trendy colour in decoration today but it also one of the shades that Aalto tried in some of his early vases.

Flaming red
Nothing compares to red glass: we have created the tall Aalto vases, 201 and 251mm, in Flaming red. Just like its name, it is alive, flaming and red.Nothing compares to red glass: we have created the tall Aalto vases, 201 and 251mm, in . Just like its name, it is alive, flaming and red.The secret behind the spectacular red color lies in Iittala’s technical innovation. Alvar Aalto used red glass as well but it was then a deeper, so-called ruby red. He used it randomly in, for example, some parts of the Aalto Flower he designed for the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. The Aalto vase has been manufactured in ruby red from the 1980s right up to 2005.

Duo colored
Duo colored Aalto vases are something brand new. They bring out the inner and outer shapes of the vase in unprecedented fashion. The outside is always white opal glass and against this white the inside glows translucent red, blue, dark blue, green or brown. The new item is a sculpturesque addition to interior decoration. This vase comes in the traditional 160 mm height.
